The Ultimate Guide to Layering Skincare Products

Achieving radiant and healthy-looking skin doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, one of the keys to an effective skincare routine is understanding how to layer your products correctly. Whether you're a skincare newbie or a seasoned pro, we're here to break down the basics of layering skincare products to help you achieve your best skin ever.

Cleansing:

Before you even think about layering products, you need a clean canvas to work with. Start your skincare routine with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, makeup, and impurities. At least spend 60 seconds cleansing your skin to get a deep clean.

Want a cleanser that also removes makeup? Try the Detox & Balance - Cleansing Bar.

Exfoliation (2-3 times a week):

Exfoliation is crucial for removing dead skin cells and revealing fresh, radiant skin underneath. We love exfoliants that combines both gentle physical exfoliants (scrubs) and chemical exfoliants (AHAs or BHAs). Exfoliation prep your skin for maximum absorption of your active ingredients to follow.

Did you know the Fresh Canvas - Exfoliating Powder combines both natural physical exfoliants and naturally sauced AHA?

Toning (Optional):

After exfoliation (if applicable) and cleansing, you can use a toner to balance your skin's pH levels and prepare it to absorb subsequent products. Toners can also provide additional hydration and address specific skincare concerns, such as acne or redness.

I personally don't feel the need to use a toner anymore as many of our products contain natural ingredients like neem, rose, and citrus essential oils with toning properties.

Serum:

Serums are packed with concentrated active ingredients designed to target your skin issues and are formulated to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin. Whether you're tackling dark spots, lines & wrinkles, or dryness, choose a serum that addresses your unique skin concerns. Apply a few drops of serum onto your clean skin and gently pat it in.

If you are looking for a multi-tasking serum that addresses all of those skin concerns, give Kalaia Keep Smooth - Day & Night Serum a try. Our loyal customers call it liquid gold for a reason!

Moisturizer:

Hydration is key to maintaining healthy skin. Apply a moisturizer to lock in the moisture as well as the active ingredients from previous steps and keep your skin soft and supple. If you have acne prone skin, make sure to find a product that doesn't clog your pores.

I might be bias but the Hold Tight - Overnight Moisturizer is the best I've ever found for my combination skin.

Eye Cream (Optional):

If you have specific concerns like under-eye puffiness or dark circles, consider incorporating an eye cream into your routine. Gently apply a small amount to the under-eye area.

Again, if you are looking for a multi-tasking eye cream that can address all of your concerns, check out the Hyaluronic Acid packed Preserve & Restore - Eye Cream.

Sunscreen (Only in the Morning):

Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in your morning skincare routine. UV rays can cause premature aging and damage to the skin, so always finish your morning routine with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. Make sure to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially if you're spending time outdoors.

My personal favorite sunscreen is the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. Please know that I have no affiliation with them. I'm simply recommending what I love.

When layering, if you are ever in doubt, remember to start with products with thinner textures and finish with thicker ones. Don’t forget the importance of consistency and sunscreen. With the right products and setting aside 5-10 minutes to care for your skin in the morning and at night, you'll be on your way to your best skin ever in no time!
